∆XYZ and ∆OXZ are similar triangles

because, XZ is common, angle X in ∆XYZ and angle O in ∆OXZ are right angles and angle z is common in both ∆s.

with this we can say

OX/XY= XZ/YZ

for XZ use Pythagoras theorem,

XZ²= YZ²- XY²= 12²- 9²= 144- 81= 63

XZ= √(63)= 3√7

Now, OX= XZ×XY/YZ

OX= 3√7× 9/ 12= 27√7/12= (9√7)/4 cm
