There characteristics are as follows

  1. They are very shiny and soft and can be cut with a plastic knife
  2. They have a silvery appearance
  3. They are highly reactive at Standard pressure and temperature
  4. They generally lose their outermost electron to form cations of charge +1
  5. There shiny surface tarnishes rapidly in air due to oxidation
  6. They must stored in oil to prevent contact with air as they are highly reactive metals
  7. Some examples are lithium, sodium, potassium, caesium, rubidium etc.
  8. Usually their densities increase on moving down in periodic table

Hope that helps you

Thank you
