 \frac{y + 6}{4}  +  \frac{y - 3}{5}  =  \frac{5y - 4}{8}

 \frac{5(y+6) + 4(y - 3)}{20}  =  \frac{5y - 4}{8}

 \frac{5y +30 + 4y 12}{20}  =  \frac{5y - 4}{8}

 \frac{9y + 18}{20}  =  \frac{5y - 4}{8}

cross \:  multiplying \:  lhs  \: and  \: rhs

8(9y + 18) 20 (5y - 4)

72y + 144 =  100y - 80

100y - 72y = 144 + 80

28y = 224

y =  \frac{224}{28}  =  \frac{32}{4}

y = 8
