- a) The general name of organism Y is scavengers or detritivores. Scavengers eat the leftover food as well as the decaying organisms. They are called cleaners of the ecosystem because they clean the leftovers and keep the environment clean. There are two types of scavengers, one type eats the dead animals and the second type breaks the dead organic matter into simpler forms and digests it.
