y do we apply oil on iron tools

Applying oil creats layer of oil that prevents water to touch that surface. And prevents rusting.

We apply oil on Iron tools, because Iron has a tendancy to rust. Oil prevents rusting of materials like Iron. Rust is formed when iron and oxygen react in the presence of water or moisture in the air.
