1. A.C Method

y² + 19y + 60 = (y+15)(y+4)

y              +15

y               +4

2. Splitting the Terms Method

y² + 15y + 4y + 60

= (y² + 15y) + (4y + 60)

= y(y + 15) + 4(y + 15)

= (y + 15)(y + 4)

For your information

Two concepts used here are derived from identities.

Factorization is the opposite of expanding.

  • \sf{(ax+b)(cx+d)=acx^2+(ad+bc)x+bd} [1st]
  • \sf{(x+a)(x+b)=x^2+(a+b)x+ab} [2nd]

A.C method is preferred as it works better for any highest coefficients.
