Solution:

y  ∝  ∛(x + 3)  

=> y =  k ∛(x + 3)  

when x = 5 ,  y = 1

=> 1  = k ∛(5 + 3)

=> 1 = k ∛8

=> 1 = k ∛2³

=> 1 = k (2)

=> k = 1/2

y =  (1/2) ∛(x + 3)  

When x = 340

=> y =  (1/2) ∛(x + 3)  

=> y =  (1/2) ∛(340 + 3)  

=> y =  (1/2) ∛(343)  

=> y =  (1/2) ∛(7³)  

=> y =  (1/2) (7)

=> y = 7/2

=> y = 3.5

y = 3.5 when x = 340
