Answer:

y=√x²+a²

let x²+a²=u

therefore y=u½

dy/dx=(dy/du)(du/dx)

dy/du=d(u½)/du

=1/2(u½-¹)

=1/2(u-½)

=1/2(x²+a²)-½

du/dx=d(x²+a²)/dx

=2x+0

dy/dx=[1/2(x²+a²)-½][2x]

x/(√x²+a²)
