y {}^{2}  -  y - (2k + 2) = 0 \\  \\ and \:  \:  \:  \: y = -  4 \:  \: ......sub \: this \: \: value \: in \: given \: eqn. \\  \\ ( - 4) {}^{2}  - ( - 4) - (2k + 2) = 0 \\  \\ 16 + 4 - 2k - 2 = 0 \\  \\  - 2k + 20 - 2 = 0 \\  \\  - 2k + 18 = 0 \\  \\ 2k = 18 \\  \\ k = 9
