answer - This statement may mean that the deer’s gaze affected Yan strongly and deeply, so that he not only saw the gaze but also felt moved by it.

Answer:

Yan was a hunter who was very determined to catch deer and bring it to his village to show the people that the deer still exists in the Carberry, Canada. He at first wanted to hunt and kill a deer, so he followed the trail marks. But as he saw the deer with long and big ears, he was so moved and had a deep involvement in the situation that he decided never ever to shoot at the deer.

At this point of time Yan felt a lot for the deer and was satisfied with what he saw.
