Answer:

There were 20 questions on the test.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the no. of questions answered correct be X

Let the no. of questions answered incorrect be Y

Marks scored for correct answers = 3X

Marks deducted for incorrect answers = 1Y

According to the 1st condition,

3X - 1Y = 40..... (i)

Similarly,

According to the 2nd condition,

4X - 2Y = 50

∴ 2X - Y =25.....(ii)

Subtracting (ii) from (i)

3X - Y = 40

2X - Y = 25

(-)    (+)  (-)

--------------------

       X = 15

Substituting value of X in (ii),

2 x 15 - Y = 25

∴ Y = 5

Total number of questions = X+ Y = 15 + 5 = 20 questions.

This is a full step by step explanation, so when you actually solve it in class or during your examinations, please do not write it this long. This is just so you understand.

Hope it helps ^-^

Answer:

\huge{\mathcal{\underline{\green{Answer}}}}

Let x be the number of right answers and y be the number of wrong answers.

∴ According to the question ,

3x−y=40⟶(i)

and , 2x−y=25⟶(ii)

On substraction : x=15

putting the value of x in ⟶(i)

3(15)−y=40

y=5

∴ Number of right answers=15 answers

Number of wrong answers=5 answers.

Total Number of questions 5+15=20
