Given:

If speed had been 4km/hr more then she would take 1 hour less to travel 48 km.

To find:

Speed of Yashvi's bicycle.

Solution:

Let the time taken by the bicycle be t hrs to cover a distance of 48 km with a speed of S km/hr.

Then time t = distance/ speed

t = 48/S

When S is 4 km/hr more, then time taken is one hour less:

48/(S+4) = t-1

Putting the value of t from previous equation we get:

48/(S+4) = 48/S - 1

48/(S+4) = 48-S/ S

48S = (48-S)(S+4)

48S = 48S - S^2 + 192 -4S

S^2 + 4S - 192= 0

S^2 + 16S - 12S -192 = 0

S(S + 16) -12(S + 16) = 0

(S + 16)(S - 12) = 0

S = -16 and 12

Since speed cannot be negative therefore S = 12.

Therefore the speed will be 12 km/hr.
