Given:

22 g of benzene is dissolved in 122 g of carbon tetrachloride

To find:

The mass percentage of benzene (C6H6) and carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)

Solution:

The mass of Benzene (C₆H₆) = 22 g

The mass of Carbon Tetrachloride (CCl₄) = 122 g

∴ The mass of the solution of C₆H₆ & CCl₄ = 22 + 122 = 144 g

We have the formula to calculate the mass percentage as follows:

\bigstar\boxed{\bold{Mass\% = \frac{Mass \:of\:solute}{Mass\:of\:solution}\times 100 }} \bigstar

Now, using the above formula we will calculate the mass percentage of C₆H₆ & CCl₄ which is as follows:

Mass percentage of C₆H₆ is,

= \frac{[Mass\:of\:C_6H_6]}{[Mass \:ofC_6H_6 \:+\: Mass\:of\:CCl_4]}\times 100

= \frac{22}{144}\times  100

= \bold{15.27\%}

and

Mass percentage of CCl₄ is,

= \frac{[Mass\:of\:CCl_4]}{[Mass \:ofC_6H_6 \:+\: Mass\:of\:CCl_4]}\times 100

= \frac{122}{144}\times  100

= \bold{84.72\%}

Thus,

The mass % of C₆H₆ is → 15.27%.

The mass % of CCl₄ is → 84.72%.
