GIVEN

x = a & y = b is a solution of

x - y = 2 & x + y = 4

TO DETERMINE

The value of a and b

EVALUATION

Here it is given that x = a & y = b is a solution of x - y = 2 & x + y = 4

$\sf{a - b = 2 \: \: \: - - - (1)}$

$\sf{a + b = 4 \: \: \: - - - (2)}$

Equation 1 & Equation 2 together gives

$\sf{2a = 6}$

$\implies \sf{a = 3}$

Equation 2 gives

$\sf{b = 4 - 3}$

$\sf{ \implies \: b = 1}$

Hence the required value a = 3 , b = 1
