Answer: 5 cm

Explanation:

Given:

☛ AB is a tangent.

☛ AB = 4 cm and OA = 3 cm

To Find:

☛ OB = ?

Solution:

∠OAB = 90° { Radius is perpendicular to the tangent at the point of contact }

So, In △OAB, by Pythagoras Theorem

☛ OB² = AB² + OA²

☛ OB² = (4)² + (3)²

☛ OB² = 16 + 9

☛ OB = √25

☛ OB = 5 cm

Hence, OB = 5 cm.

What is Pythagoras Theorem?

It states that In a right angled triangle the square of the longest side ( hypotenuse ) is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides ( base and perpendicular ).
