Find the fraction of money left after spending on the DVD:

\text {Fraction of money left} = 1 - \dfrac{1}{2}

\text {Fraction of money left} = \dfrac{1}{2}

Find the fraction of money spent on greeting cards:

\text {Fraction of money spent on greeting cards} =  \dfrac{1}{3} \times \dfrac{1}{2}

\text {Fraction of money spent on greeting cards} =  \dfrac{1}{6}

Find the fraction of money left:

\text {Fraction of money left} = \dfrac{1}{2} - \dfrac{1}{3}

\text {Fraction of money left} = \dfrac{1}{6}

Find the fraction of money spent:

\text {Fraction of money spent} = 1 - \dfrac{1}{6}

\text {Fraction of money spent =} \dfrac{5}{6}

Find the amount of money spent:

\text {Fraction of money left} = \dfrac{1}{6}

\text {amount of money left } = \text {Rs }60

\dfrac{1}{6}  = \text {Rs } 60

\dfrac{5}{6}  = \text {Rs } 60\times 5

\dfrac{5}{6}  = \text {Rs } 300

Total money spended = 120Rs.

Given:

Yesterday I spent half my money on a new DVD.

Today I spent a third of the money Left to buy a greeting card.

Now I am left with RS. 60.

To find:

How much money did I spend altogether.

Explanation:

Total money I have = A Rs.

Half my money on a new DVD = \frac{1}{2} × A

Remaining money = A- \frac{1}{2} × A =

Today I spent a third of the money Left to buy a greeting card

                                            = \frac{1}{3} × \frac{1}{2} × A = \frac{1}{6} × A

Remaining money =  \frac{1}{2} × A -  \frac{1}{6} × A =  \frac{1}{3} × A

Remaining money I left = 60 Rs.

Remaining money =   \frac{1}{3} × A = 60Rs

                                         A = 60×3 = 180 Rs

Total money I have = A Rs = 180 Rs

Total money spended by me = Total money I have -  Remaining money

                                     = 180 - 60

Total money spended by me = 120Rs.

Therefore, total money spended by me is Rs. 120.
