I went slowly near her. I gave her my clean handkerchief and asked her what's wrong. She looked into my eyes, her eyes sorrowful. She then replied that her husband of 60 years just died. I was appalled and saddened upon hearing her response. I solaced her by hugging her tightly. She held my hand, thanking me for sympathizing with her. For the first time in my life I felt really happy for I was able to make someone feel better.
THE BEST PARTY
Yesterday I went for an evening walk. On the way, I noticed an old woman sitting under a tree. She was reading a letter. Her hands were trembling and there were tears in her eyes. I went slowly near her and asked her about the situation. She cried, “Today is my birthday and my son, who lives in London promised me to come to India on my Birthday. But, today I got this letter saying that he was really busy with some work and had to cancel the flight.” I felt really bad for her.
I went to my house without saying anything to her. I told everything to my mother as I was not able to understand what should I do to make the old woman happy but I knew that my mother will help me with a good idea. She advised, “I am happy to see that you want to help someone. I think we can plan a good birthday party for her at our house.” I said, “Nice, the idea seems good to me. Let’s now make the arrangements for the party.”
After all the decoration for the party was done, I went to the same location where I saw her for the first time but I could not find her there. I asked a man, “Did you see any woman two hours ago sitting under the tree and crying?” The man replied, “Yes, I saw her” I asked, “Can you please tell me where she lives, if you know?” He replied, “Yes, I do, she lives in the fifth house to the right of this street.” I thanked him and went to her house. I rang the bell. The woman opened the door and I could see that she felt good seeing me again at her house. She said, “Welcome son, come in.” I said, “No aunty, instead I want you to come to my house. I have something really special for you.” She hesitated but accepted to come. We came to the house.
She was surprised to see the decoration in the house. I could see the happiness in her eyes. I called some of my friends to make the party more interesting. Everyone at the party welcomed her. We all sang the ‘Happy Birthday’ song for her. I took her son’s phone number and requested him to join the party via video call. She felt really good after seeing her son. She told me that she loves children.
After the party had ended, my mom and the woman talked to each other and they felt immense pleasure talking to each other. The woman said, “I have enjoyed this party a lot. Thank you for organising such a good party. This was the best birthday party of my life. She then left for her house feeling good again.
