Yesterday was your sister's fifth birthday and due to Covid 19 pandemic, you could not go out or call anyone to your house. Write a letter to your friend (in about 150 words) telling him/her about how you celebrated her birthday at home, how you gave her a surprise and what her reaction was.

Answer:

Lockdown birthday: We really did not see that coming. But it is here and staying longer than we would have liked it to. And believe it or not, it has given rise to trends. After drive-by parties, the latest is walk-by parties, where (depending on the lockdown rule in each country) a small number of people, while maintaining social distancing, wear party hats and stand outside the birthday boy or girl’s house and sing happy birthday or hold balloons and flowers.

With elaborate outdoor plans shelved, and with limited resources, family and friends are trying to think up quirky ways to keep birthdays exciting. Funny cards are emailed (hello 1999), videos calls are made and parties are organised online. Cakes are left on doorsteps or delivered through apps. As grocery runs become less frequent and larders empty, jugaad cakes are made at home by moulding instant noodles, or stacking layers of fruits (papaya and watermelon with apples cut in the shape of stars, for example).

Subject - A letter describing my sister's birthday party celebrations that took place in our home .

Dear Shifana ( write your friend's name ) ,

As you know yesterday was my sister's fifth birthday . I was thinking of hosting a big party and inviting you and your sister . But this plan of mine backtracked when the Corona virus pandemic came into existence . My sister was in a dilemma because she really wanted to celebrate her birthday and was scared that she would not be able to celebrate it . I knew that feeling because even I felt that way during my birthday . But I didn't want my sister to have a sad look on her face during the day of her fifth birthday . So , I decided to to host a surprise party for her at home , with only the materials that were available at hand . I made a nice fluffy sponge cake and then coated it with a layer of frosting and cream . I also made some buttermilk cookies . I decorated all the baked goods I have made with a Cinderella cream maker , because I knew my sister would love it . My mom was as busy as always and so was my dad , so we had the entire home for ourselves that day . I also bought a lot of balloons from the near by shop and finally decided to give her a bracelet that I had made by myself . I knew she would love the bracelet too , because it was pink in colour and had a lot of glittery balls hanging down from it ; just the way she loved . At last it time for the birthday party to begin . I called my sister under the pretense of asking her to do her homework . She glared at me but went towards the hall anyway . There she saw everything I have done for her and got a surprised look on her face . The look soon changed into a one of mischief and just as if she was wind she started to throw the frosting on the cake and the balloons on me . I too did the same . It was so much fun . In the end when she saw the bracelet she said that " You are the best sibling I could ever have " . She smiled widely and went to the dressing room to see how the bracelet looked on her hand . This was the way in which my sister's birthday party was celebrated .

Please dont forget to write back .

Your lovely friend ,
