this statement shows that though the boys were very young that is 12 and 13 years old and very shabbily dressed yet there was maturity in their personality and sincerity in their eyes which fascinated the narrator and his friend.

In the story, Two Gentlemen of Verona, the two boys – Nicola and Jacopo – worked hard by doing various kinds of jobs.
They had smiling faces ever, which was noticed by the author. At the same time, he observed that there is some seriousness in their faces. Later, the author came to know that they worked very hard for their sister who has been suffering from a disease.
They earned a lot and spent them for her to cure her disease. Though they were small boys, they had matured thoughts and actions.
