 \underline \mathbb{HAEMODIALYSIS}

》Our kidneys act as the vital organs for survival. Several factors such as infections, injury or restricted blood flow to kidneys reduce the normal activities of kidneys.

》This leads to accumulation of poisonous wastes in the body, that can even lead to death.

Kidney failures can be managed by artificial kidney.

》Artificial kidney is a device used to remove nitrogenous waste products from the blood through dialysis.

 \underline \mathbb{HOW\:IT\:IS\:DONE?}

》Artificial kidney contain a number of tubes with a semiperbeable lining suspended in a tank filled with a dialysis fluid.

》This fluid has the same osmotic pressure as that of the blood except, that it is devoid of nitrogenous waste such as urea.

》During the procedure of dialysis patients blood is passed through this tube.

》As the blood passes, the waste products from the blood move into dialysing fluid by diffusion and the purified blood is pumped back into the patient body.

》The dialysis unit allows the blood to run along one side of a cellophane membrane and dialysis fluid in opposite direction.

》This is generally done to maintain the concentration gradient between the patient blood and the dialysis fluid.

 \underline \mathbb{HOW\:OFTEN\:IT\:IS\:DONE}

》Usually it is done three days a week and takes about 4 hours.

\huge{\underline{\underline{\mathfrak{\red{\sf{Haemodialysis-}}}}}}

Sometimes the activity of kidneys is reduced due to several factors like infections, injury or restricted blood flow to kidneys. This leads to the accumulation of poisonous wastes in the body, which can even lead to death.

In such conditions, an artificial kidney is used.

"An artificial kidney is a device which is used to remove nitrogenous waste products from the blood through dialysis."

Artificial kidney contains number of tubes with a semi permeable lining. The tubes are suspended in a tank filled with dialysing solution. This solution has some osmotic pressure as that of blood except it is devoid of nitrogenous waste.

\large{\underline{\bold{\green{\sf{Process\:of\:haemodialysis-}}}}}

Blood of patient is passed through these tubes. During this passage the waste products from the blood pass into the dialysing solution by the diffusion. The purify blood is pumped back into the patient's body via vein. It is done three times in a week.

This function is similar to the kidney function. One difference is that, in this process no - reabsorption takes place.
