✒ the Chipko Andolan was the result of a Grass root level effort to end alienation of people from their forests. the movement originated from an incident in a remote village called Reni in Garhwal ,high-up in the Himalayas during the early 1970s. there was a dispute between the local villages and a logging contractor who had been allowed to fell trees in a forest close to village on a particular day .the contractors' workers appeared in forest to cut the trees while men folk was absent. the women of village reached the forest quickly and collapse the tree trunks thus preventing the workers from felling the trees. thus, the contractor had to withdraw

Chipko movement originated in a remote village called Reni in Garhwal in the 1970 s. A logging contractor had been  allowed to cut down trees in a forest close to a village. The people of the forest did not want the forest to be cut down as it would spoil their healthy environment. One day when the men folk were out the contractor's worker arrived to cut down the forest. In absence of men the women folk reached the forest quickly and clasped the tree trunks with their arms, preventing the workers to cut down the trees . The forest was thus saved. This incident is known as the chipko movt. in the pages of history
