The speciation phenomenon most commonly occurs through polyploidy, in which an offspring or group of offspring will be produced with twice the normal number of chromosomes.

In a large population of an organism is spread or a large area . most of the populations depend on the local resources a get divided into sub populations .


Because of this organisms of two different sub populations changes may occur so drastically that the no of chromosomes may change and become genetically different that they cannot reproduce on mating  . Since they cannot reproduce they form different species .Thus speciation takes place
