You and your friend live in different states and plant identical hydrangea bulbs in your garden. When they bloom, you send each other pictures. You notice that even though you bought the exact same kind of plant, your hydrangea flowers are blue and your friend’s are pink! On a hunch, you each measure the pH of your soil and find that your soil is a little acidic and your friend’s is a little basic. Why do you think the flowers have different colors?

\bigstar \mid CASE (given) :

  • I and my friend have planted hydrangea plants in our garden.

\bigstar \mid OBSERVATION and EXPERIMENTS :

  • We know that an acid or a base usually react with certain substance and used to change color in order to identify the nature of the substance. In other words they are called as an acid-base indicator.

  • Here it is told that color of our hydrangea is changing into two different colors.

  • After a such observation we have an experiment to find out the pH of soil i.e., My soil is bit acidic and my friend's one is little basic in nature.

\bigstar \mid REASON (Answer) :

  • An Acid is sour in nature and a Base is bitter although they have changed the color (given).

  • In simple words, it is defined as an acid-base indicator.

  • Anthocyanins are a common Acid- base indicator mostly present in plants .

  • Here, also it may occur as we all not knowing about exact chemical reaction acting on it.

HENCE,

The chemical which is reacting might be Anthocyanins.

\bigstar \mid KEY WORDS :
