Keats has rightly said 'A thing of a beauty is a joy forever.' My first experience with something real beautiful happened, when during the summer vacation I got an opportunity to trek along the mountains overlooking the river, Ravi. While trekking, we at times came so close to the river that we could not resist the temptation of wading into its chilled water. Despite the scorching heat of the sun and the humidity, the water was so cold. We dared not go further than the shallow water, as the current in the middle was so strong. It could have carried all of us along it. The scenic beauty of the surroundings and the refreshing water of the river just refreshed our body, mind and soul. I learnt many new things during this expedition. At times, the trekking trail became quite arduous; I really had to focus my mind and body to overcome the obstacles. I learnt to be self-reliant. Sleeping in the sleeping bag in tent in the open, without the comforts and luxuries of home was another challenge. By the evening I got so tired, that sleep came so easily and smoothly. Early in the morning, we were woken up by the chirpings of the birds. I feel each human being must go on such adventurous expeditions to learn lessons in courage, time management, and self-reliance.
