                   POISONED DRINKING WATER KILLS ELEVEN

MEERUT, March 13 : Eleven people were killed after consuming poisoned drinking water in Hosiarpur village on Wednesday. Though the exact cause of the poisoning has not been ascertained, the mixing of drinking water with sewage is being suspected as the culprit. As many as twenty seven people have been admitted to the nearby Nan Singh Hospital with complaints of severe abdominal pain, diarrhea and vomiting.

The deaths have resulted in widespread panic in the village and the villagers refused to consume water from the common pond. The villagers gathered in large groups and stopped traffic on the nearby Highway. Water tankers had to be called in to supply clean drinking water to the protesting villagers.

Several samples of the contaminated water have also been collected by the authorities for investigation. Neelabh Singh, SHO Meerut district has not ruled out intentional poisoning of the water source of the village. The complete drainage and cleaning of the water source is being proposed by the municipal authorities to counter the problem.
