<> Pune, 18th December: A four-hour semi are was held in the City Auditorium to discuss the Conservation of Tiger in India. The seminar was attended by over two hundred University students who are actively involved in various environment preservation projects.
<> The seminar began with an open discussion on the failure of Sariska. The last Tiger sighted in the Sariska Tiger Reserve was way back in November 2004. Poaching I'd the main reason behind the sudden disappearance of tigers from the Reserve. The reason behind poaching and why it was left unchecked was discussed among other related issues.
<> The discussion then progressed to the plight of the other national Tiger Reserves like the Ranthambore in Rajasthan and Kanha in Madhya Pradesh. India cannot afford to lose its Tiger population the way it happened in Sariska. Working out possible solutions to stop the killing of animal is vital in this regard. Many possible solutions were chalked out.
<> It was decided that a report would be prepared on the seminar and sent to the national Tiger conservation authority. It would list the steps suggested at the discussion. Sone volunteers formed a group to contribute their own bit to the cause. The group decided to meet once every month to discuss the progress if the work.
Hope this helps..!!
