You are a resident of 36 B Ashok Vihar, New Delhi. You are concerned about the open manholes on the main road connecting the city with the highway. It creates problems especially during monsoon season when these manholes get filled and cause a lot of road accidents. Write a letter to the editor The Times of India highlighting this issue. Subject: Problem of open manholes in our locality

Sir:

I am writing to your good-self to bring to your attention the inconvenience being faced by the residents of Green Enclave owing to open manholes. The Municipal Corporation laid new sewage pipes in our colony two months ago. However, the roads were left unrepaired afterwards. Many of the manholes were not covered; and the other had poor quality covers which broke down within a few days. We wrote many letters requesting the concerned authorities to cover these manholes but to no avail. Owing to these open manholes, everyday there is a mishap of some sort. During the rains, the situation becomes the worst. Many people have been badly injured by falling in them. I feel the authorities are waiting for some tragic incident to happen before they will take any action!

I on behalf of the residents of the area appeal to you to bring this matter to the notice of concerned authorities; we want to be relieved of the inconvenience we have been facing for so many weeks. Our children, elderly, and other people are getting hurt every day, not to mention the harassment we are constantly facing. If no immediate action is taken, we will be forced to call media and have a documentary made and shown on TV. May be this will instigate the concerned authority to action. I hope you will give my letter enough space in the columns of your reputed daily. Thanking you.

Yours truly,

Raj Sharma
