Ravi is a stranger to Kolkata. He has heard a lot about the ‘City of Joy’ and is out to explore it. He is confused of how to reach the famous Victoria Memorial. He comes across a passer- by and starts a conversation.
Ravi: Excuse me, are you from Kolkata ?
Passer-by (PB) : Yes. Any problem?
R: Well, I am a little confused. I want to go to Victoria Memorial from here. Could you guide me ?
PB: I wish I could accompany you. Victoria Memorial is one of my favourite places. You know it was created by the British to flaunt their architectural skills and compete with the Taj Mahal.
R: Is it as beautiful as the Taj?
PB : Are you crazy? The Taj is the crown that surpasses all architecture. Victoria Memorial is the head that wears the crown.
R: I can’t wait to see it.
PB: You must. It is made of the same Makrana marble as the Taj. Don’t forget to see the art museum inside it. Just outside the Memorial there is a stall that makes wonderful Bengali ‘phuckas’. Take a bite, it is a Kolkata speciatility.
R: Sure. How do I go there.
PB: Board a tram and get off at Maidan. You can walk straight through the lushy field . It will lead you to the Memorial. Or else you can hire a Tonga. It is a lovely ride to the Memorial.
