Low voltage and frequent tripping, causing an average of three-four-hour power cuts every day, is becoming a worry for residents of Sushant Lok 1.
Voltage problems also left residents sleepless on Wednesday night.
There are 6,500 plots, spanning over 600 acres, in Sushant Lok-1, located in Sector 43. The area was developed by Ansal API in the late 1980s.
Residents said that the power infrastructure is insufficient to handle the load and had appealed to the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN), on Tuesday, to install new transformers.
SS Rai, a resident, said, “For the last two weeks, the electricity trips six to seven times daily, causing a three to four-hour power cut. This happens because our transformer is overloaded and the cables get tripped more frequently these days with high electricity consumption. We lodged a complaint at the CM Window this January, demanding replacement of all overloaded transformers in Sushant Lok, to resolve the problem permanently.”
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has taken over all aspects of the maintenance, except electricity, from Ansal API. The residents want the DHBVN to take over the electricity maintenance as well.
“We are fed up with low voltage and tripping, which damages electrical appliances and also disrupts water supply. The reason for all this is inadequate transformers in the colony. DHBVN has to install 17 new transformers as per its commitment to improving the situation under the Smart Grid project. We sent a reminder to DHBVN on Tuesday too,” said Anil Sharma, a resident.
He said that workers could not pump water into the overhead tank through the boosting station, which is usually done between 5am and 7am, on Thursday due to the power situation.
The DHBVN’s Smart Grid project is underway in the city, including in Sushant Lok, under which overhead cables will be moved underground.
“Except C Block (which is maintained by residents), electricity in the rest of the colony is still being maintained by a maintenance agency appointed by the builder. But we do not want to blame it as residents have stopped paying maintenance after the announcement of colony transfer in 2016. We want the DHBVN to take over our electricity maintenance, on the lines of civic maintenance undertaken by the MCG,” said Vishnu Khanna, another resident.
DHBVN officials said they are likely to start the installation of new transformers soon.
Sachin Yadav, executive engineer, DHBVN, said, “We are soon to start transformer installation work in Sushant Lok. We are aware of the electricity issue and 12 new transformers will be installed under the Smart Grid project, which will end the problem permanently.”
