Kharagpur, 13th January: A devastating railway disaster took place at the Kharagpur Railway Station. Fifty are feared dead and hundreds injured. We at Hindustan Times were the first to reach the spot.
The Kolkata bound Bombay Express had just pulled into platform four of the Kharagpur station when the Chennai Mail sped in on the same track from the opposite direction.
It was a head on collision. The Chennai Mail crashed into the stationary Bombay Mail crushing fifty people instantly. Many are still trapped and there is a fear that the number of casualties may sharply rise.
Rescue forces have rushed to the site for assistance along with the Railway Disaster Management team.
The Railway Minister has also rushed to the spot. An investigation has been ordered to probe into the incident.
