Kolkata is known as the ‘city of joy’ and it certainly turned out to be one for me on the night of January 29th. The city has an old colonial charm about it and it is one of the few metros in the country where people do not seem to be in a hurry.
Hello my dear ,
Do you want to know how Sachin became a great legend ? His autobiography describes the tedious journey he travelled to become the God of Cricket . Would you like to listen to it ? Ok
The training session at the summer camps wasn't an easy ride for Sachin . His practice session at the summer camps we're between 7:30am to 10:30am in the morning. He would then come back home and then return for a late evening practice . The schedule was very tough that he felt really exhausted by the end of the day . Moreover , his bus journey to Shivaji Park , Oh my god! It took forty minutes from his house in Bhandra. Ajit , his brother went along with him for a few days in the beginning and they had some interesting conversation about cricket . Sachin penned down all those things in his training manual.
Another thing which touched me is that he had only one set of cricket clothes and had to wash them twice daily . Seeing his interest in cricket Achrekar Sir asked his father to change his school . Finally Sachin got permission from his father and he joined Shardashram Vidhyamandhir where Achrekar Sir was the coach .
Sachin played remarkably well in the first year at Shardashram . One can imagine how it is like to practice from 7:30 till 4:30pm and again from 5:30pm after a 30minute break . Towards the last 15 minutes , sir would keep a one- rupee coin on the stumps and he had to win it by facing every bowler present there with 60 to 70 fielders.
Another interesting anecdote that I remember is that when Sachin didn't turn up for practice and played with his friends at home , you know what Achrekar Sir did? He would come on his scooter and drag him out and on the way to Shivaji Park he would advise him to avoid wasting time on inane games . Can you believe that ? Once he even punished Sachin for missing evening practice for an interschool cricket match . Achrekar Sir was angry and said that he must not waste his time watching others play , and that if he practised hard enough , people from all over the world come to watch him play .
The words of the coach became true ! Achrekar Sir was a strict disciplinarian and it helped Sachin to become the world famous player that he is today ! Hats off to Achrekar Sir and Sachin .
