Once again, the time for turtle-calling has arrived again in the Fijian island. This has been an annual event, with the womenfolk dressing up in bright and colorful attires. The myth about this event is and has been one of immense pride and devotion.
legend has it that there was a princess who was fishing in the ocean with her daughter when they were captured by warriors. But their ship was on the brink of destruction by a huge storm, so the mother-daughter duo jumped into the water and transformed into turtles, thus saving their lives. Thus, from that time onward, the women of this island annually hold a ceremony to call on the princess' descendants home. And when any turtle surfaced on the shore, their celebration reached the highest peak.
Such is the importance that the people of this island gave the princess and her daughter. And today will be another event when such dance and singing and calling will be observed. And as you can see now, the women are all dressed in their best, and the singing is about to start. Let's all observe this event together.
