On Thursday 18th January, the girls' football team had their very first tournament at The Cliff (Manchester United's old training ground). The nine girls, including us, Simon, Corey and Mrs Cooper all left at 9.10am and returned at 12.10pm.
Unfortunately, we lost the first game 0:1 but we didn't let it get us down. So, with that in mind, we came back and drew the second game 2:2 and we were so happy! The third game no-one scored and then we had a well-deserved break! We were so ready for the last game. We were that ready we won 3:0! YAY! We were overjoyed. We were very tired. So tired, we almost fell asleep in the mini-bus.
The sporting calendar this year is once again full with a wide range of sporting opportunities available to our pupils the Firs. We have before school archery clubs, Lunchtime football, Multi-Sports clubs, After school Taekwondo and Basketball clubs to name a few not to mention all the events that we are taking part in at Ashton-on-Mersey High School. We have been lucky enough to have been awarded the Gold Kitemark for school sport during the academic year 2015-16 and we are aiming to continue this success into the new academic year. This award reflects the enthusiasm our children have for their PE lessons, how many of them take advantage of our after school clubs, the success we have had at competitive sporting opportunities and the way the children embrace the opportunity to take on new sports led by visitors to our school. Well done everyone!
Firs journalists will be writing sports reports to showcase their sporting achievements throughout the year and build up an in depth account of all the fantastic sporting opportunities that we have here at The Firs.
