Thts simple..
the north side of magnet points to south nd the south point to north pole...we only come to know of aouth and north poles..resp. on takin perpendiculars to the position of bar magnet we can determine the east and west directions.

It is said repultion is the real test for magnetism...

We r gonna do the same take a magnet (north pole) if it attracts it is a south pole if it repuls it is north pole . (the side)
Then the right is west direction.
