You are given a mixture of sand, water and mustard oil how will you separate the components of this mixture explain it with the help of different separation methods involved in it.

Explanation:

1) Filter the mixture, Sand will remain on the filter paper.

2) Then pour the mixture of mustard oil and in separating funnel. Water will settle down at bottom and mustard oil will float on it. Then open the stopcock of the separating funnel and pour out the lower layer of water. Mustard oil will remain in the separating funnel.

Different separation methods involved in it are :-

  • If we have a mixture of sand, water and mustard oil then these processes can be separated by filtration and a separating funnel.
  • Firstly as we know both mustard oil and water are immiscible so this mixture can be easily separated by a separating funnel.
  • Now in order to separate sand and water mixture we'll use the simple filtration method.
  • So by the help of these two processes we can separate the three components very easily as they are heterogeneous.
