You can make it a magnet by one of the following processes=
1)by keeping it near the two edges of a magnet it will also start behaving as a magnet but as soon as the magnet is removed it will loose its magnetism.
2)by electromagnetism- When electric current is passed through the iron strip it will start behaving as a magnet. But as soon as the current is turned off it will become an ordinary iron strip loosing its magnetism
Hope it helps

WITH IRON STRIP...
Take a rectangular piece of iron bar.
Take a bar magnet and keep in contact with one of its poles with one edge of the bar of iron.
Without lifting the bar magnet, move it along the length of the iron bar till you reach the other end.
WITH COPPER WIRE...
rap about 3240 terms of a coil of insulated copper wire around a large iron nail.
remove a little bit of insulation, from the wire, and its both ends.
connect these ends to two terminals of a cell/ battery through a (torch) bulb.
no bring the pointed ends of the nail near some iron pins/clip. what do we observe?
count the number of clips /pins that the Electromagnet has picked up as we switch off the current the clips /pins fall down.
repeat the above step by increasing the number of turns of coil. again count the number of clips /pains picked up by the Electromagnet .try to observe the relationship between number of turns of coil and number of paper clips picked up by the Electromagnet. next to use a bunch of Iron nails and wrap the coil on it. observe the difference if any in strength of these 'new electromagnet'.
