It can be tested without tasting with help of TDS meter. If the reading of TDS meter more than 150 to 300 ppm (here it is assumed that pure water means potable water not distilled water), then the water can be identified as impure (salty) water.

Other testings are:-

Pour some drops of both the water on clean surface and let them evaporate, after drying the surface, if there is presence of white residues that indicates the salty water.

Density of salty water will be more in comparison to the pure water.

While adding Silver nitrate solution, the dense white precipitates indicated the salty water.

The salty water converts the blue flame of LPG into yellow flame .
