You are introduced to a person who is visiting the UAE for the first time and who is,
unfortunately deaf. They are very interested in understanding more about the very early
history of the UAE, and in particular the period between 200 000 to 10 000 years ago.
Use your writing skills to describe and explain some of the key events which occurred during
the period you have studied so that the person you are writing to has a good understanding
of the events, how historians have come to know what happened, and how some of this
understanding has changed over the last fifty years. Aim to complete your description/
explanation in no more than 300 words.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a country in the eastern part of the Arabian Peninsula located on the southeastern coast of the Persian Gulf and the northwestern coast of the Gulf of Oman. The UAE consists of seven emirates and was founded on 2 December 1971 as a federation. Six of the seven emirates (Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah) combined on that date. The seventh, Ras al Khaimah, joined the federation on 10 February 1972. The seven sheikdoms were formerly known as the Trucial States, in reference to the treaty relations established with the British in the 19th Century.
