The Dark Diwali
It had been the happiest Diwali of my life until that fateful explosion, which made our vibrant, colourful and fun-filled Diwali into a nightmare. All of us were so merry after the traditional worship of the goddess Laksmi. We the children were very excited as the father had bought loads of crackers for the night. All my cousins had come over to my place. After consuming the sweets, all of us went on the roof top. There was a huge pile of all types of firecrackers in the corner. We the children rushed to take our respective share and after collecting a fair amount, we secured different corners of the roof. We let off the colourful crackers. The sky was filled with their brilliance and noise was deafening. There in the farher corner, my younger brother, Anil, was also fiddling with some crackers. We were engrossed in the excitement of the occasion. And then...Booooooommmm! There was a loud explosion. My younger brother had burst a cracker in his hand. The intense heat of the explosion had seared his skin. His hair were burnt! He was crying, eyes tight shut. We rushed him to the hospital!
