Dear Arya,

I feel as if my life is unfair. No matter how may times I tried to please Father, he never says even a kind word to me. He always tries to find fault in me.

Even today, I tried to please him, but not only have my efforts gone in vain, it even had an unanticipated consequence. You know it is only a week to Father's birthday, so on Granny's suggestion, I made him a pin-cushion. It was made out of a beautiful piece of yellow silk, stitched with double cotton on all four sides, and stuffed with paper, as that was the only thing I could find. I then hid the present in my room, anxious for Father's birthday to come, to see the look on his face!

However, I got punished for what I did today, well, not for making the pin-cushion, but for those papers I mentioned to you. Those papers were my father's speech he spent days to prepare! And I tore them off within seconds. I truthfully accepted my mistake, and even tried to apologise, but my father sent me to my room, and a few minutes later, brought a ruler and slapped my palms.

My palms and my heart still hurt from this experience. I don't know why I was destined to have such a cruel father. I still envy you for having a soft-hearted father who would do anything for you. I never ever seen him frowning at you! But my situation is just the opposite. I wish my situation would change for the better.

Do pay my regards to your mom and dad.

Yours
