Respected sir...
I write to you to express my deep concern over increasing
number of cases of violence against women.  It is so shameful that when our country is
marching towards prosperity and advancement, the barbaric acts against women
are on the rise. According to statics issued by National Crime Bureau 2015 saw
the registration of 3,27,394 cases under the head of Crimes against Women. There
has been a marginal increase of 2.5%, however, in other sexual offenses against
women. Under the category of “assault on women with intent to outrage her
modesty”, 2015 saw 84,222 cases being registered across the country.

These outrages against women have created a poor image of
India among foreign countries. Millions of foreign tourists visit India every
year; this has directly affected the tourism industry. There was nation wise
nation wise outrage on the tragic incident of Nirbhay molestation that ended up
in the victim’s death. Though the offenders have been brought to justice, still
violence against women has not decreased.

I appeal to the government and the people to come together
to fight violence against women. The Government must pass and implement very
strict laws for the safety of women. I am hopeful that your esteemed daily will
give space to my views.

Thanking you,

Yours truly,

Manav..... ❤

The Editor,

The Times of India,

Subject: The grim reality of increasing crimes against women.

Sir,

Through the columns of your esteemed daily national newspaper, I wish to draw the attention of the general public, the law enforcement agencies and the government on the increasing number of crimes against women.

The crimes against women is increasing but going unnoticed. No proper data on crimes against women is available. There are numerous cases where reporting a crime against women are ignored. The fear of social stigma and the uncertainty of getting justice are the main reasons why most of the crimes against women go unreported.

The frequent news reports of crimes against women of India and also against tourists from other countries is alarming. It has created a poor image of India among foreign countries. It is a matter of great shame that when our country is marching towards prosperity and advancement, the atrocities against women are on the rise. If women are not safe in Delhi, the very heart of India, I wonder how safe they are in other parts of the country.

It is appalling to read news reports of how police continue to be insensitive to the hapless victims of outraged modesty and their families. Our public places and transports are unsafe for women. Even in the presence of substantial evidences, the criminals are set free on bail. These criminals have absolutely no regards for the law of the land.

1) Stringent measures need to be taken to curb this and safeguard women.

2) The government, the law enforcement agencies and the general public must unite to put an end to violence against women.

3) The Government must form special police cells with women officers and other police personnel to receive reports about crime against women and take severe actions against the culprits.

4) More women need to be recruited into our police forces.

5) More women are needed as tourist guides in the tourism industry.

6) The Government must also pass and implement more strict laws than the existing ones for the safety of women.

7) There is an urgent need to impart and inculcate moral values to the police. We must streamline the police and prosecuting agencies.

8) Our political leaders, irrespective of their party affiliations should show political will and conviction to deal severely with those guilty of crimes against women.

Let us not forget that the greatness of a nation is known by the way it treats women.

Yours sincerely,

Nirmala Dhar
