When you first start sailing , it gets frustrating , things don't go how you want them . But the ocean teaches you one massive lesson , that you are not in control , and you will never be ( Well out on the ocean that is ). You can cry , and scream , and howl .. It wont do a thing , the waves will crash over your boat , and the wind will drown out your cries.
So you have to learn to just let go , do what you can , try to keep your course , but the harder you try to fight the ocean , the more she will mess you around.
My first Atlantic crossing , I was terrified , The winds howled for days on end , and the waves , wow . they were huge .. I had no control over the boat , we just went with the wind . For 8 days , I prayed , I cried ( Inwardly ) , I bargained , I promised.. and still those ocean waves would not calm , and the screeching of the winds got worse.
And then , just like that. I took a deep breath , and calmed down , closed my eyes , and opened them slowly . And it was beautiful , those waves were towering and frothing , like glittering diamonds and the screeching winds became songs , To be able to experience that magnificent wild ocean , it was a privilege , I was just a guest out here . I was allowed to be here , I was given passage.
One has to become almost resigned to the fact that if the ocean wants to kill you it will , and there is nothing you can do about it.
So i started to enjoy the weather , I was in awe , and I have so much respect for the ocean .
I still get scared , my heart races , but I am not crippled by my fear . I don't give in , I do what I can , as best as i can , and enjoy the ride.
