Dear Mother:

I hope this letter finds you in vibrant health and upbeat spirits. Well, in your last letter you expressed the wish to improve your English; I was really glad to know it. Bacon, the great English writer and thinker has rightly said, “Reading maketh a full man; writing an exact man, and conference a ready man.” Reading is an essential basic skill building activity. One’s language fluency is determined by the quality of reading. Besides, vocabulary enrichment, ideas collection, familiarization with different types of writing formats, speaking fluency, etc, all depend upon reading. In all cultures and civilizations, much stress is laid on reading. Schools, colleges, and other academic institute use reading as a major tool in imparting education to students. Dear mother, one need not go to school or college to improve one’s knowledge and fluency. One can improve proficiency by practicing at home even. If you want to improve your English, I would recommend you reading of books, magazine, newspaper, etc. While reading, you must also use dictionary extensively. Remember you need perseverance and regular practice. Soon you will have commendable command over the language. The rest is fine. Warm regards to papa and grandparents.

Yours affectionately,

Raghav
