Sub: Appeal to the Central Government in Reconsidering their Decision of Setting up a Chemical Factory Project
Dear Editor
I am Meera Ranjan staying in Jubilee Sub Road for the last 18 years. Through this letter I wish to highlight on the disadvantages of setting up a chemical factory in Kochi as planned by the government. With pollution increasing day by day and many industries already being set up that has contributed to the increasing pollution and damage to the environment, the setting up of another factory would only worsen the present situation.
As it is we people have been clearing our natural greenery for building houses and factories and our environment is already polluted and the ozone layer has been severely damaged. The toxic materials and gases that are burned and released into the atmosphere, from this chemical factory will have a severe impact to the ecosystem as well as our own health is potentially at risk too.
This is why i would like to earnestly appeal to the government to reconsider their decision of setting up the chemical factory and save our environment of getting worse. I kindly request you to publish my letter in your esteemed daily so that this message reaches our givernment and to the general public
Thanking You
Yours Sincerely
Meera Ranjan

Sub: Tackling Pollution in Our City.
Sir
I write to you to express my deep concern over the ever deteriorating problem of environmental pollution in the city and suggest some measures to control it. The pollution in our city comes from industry, and vehicles. Industry produces air pollution in the form of untreated smoke that has many hazardous gases in it; the industry also discharges thousands of liters of toxic untreated effluents into the river and its tributary. The air and the water of the city have become highly toxic, leading to many health complications.
The only solutions to this very critical problem is, people’s mass participation in saving the environment. Mass forestation drive, and stopping the use of fossil fuels altogether can solve this problem. There are other alternative fuels available. The government must act strictly. There should be a ban on fossil fuels. All vehicles must either be CNG or electrical. The government must create forest belt near every city or town. Toxic smoke emissions and effluents of industries must be treated in treatment plants before releasing them into the environment. Those units that don’t comply with the environmental laws must be shut down.
Through the columns of your esteemed daily I appeal to the environment ministry to do something in this regard. I am hopeful you will give my views enough space in your reputed daily and help in furthering the cause.
Yours truly,
