GUWAHATI, March 14 : Seven people were killed and over forty two have been reported missing after flood ravaged areas of Assam on Wednesday. Incessant rain for the past few days is being believed to be the main cause for the overflowing of river Brahmaputra.

The floods have caused widespread panic in the state especially in the most affected Dhemaaji distict. The flood has immersed all low lying areas in the district and rendered around 16,000 people homeless. The flood has led to widespread devastation and ravaged buildings, uprooted trees and crumpled houses are a common sight in the district.

Relief measures are going on in full swing. Thousands of victims have been shifted to relief camps in Guwahati. Help for the victims is pouring in from all quarters and hundreds of people have contributed to Assam Flood Relief Fund. The state government is adopting all possible measure to reduce the suffering of victims.
