Answer:

Drug addiction is a major social evil of modern times. Major newspaper headlines and sensational television coverage scream about drug abuse and related crimes. Fascination for drugs and their easy availability have heightened the number of drug abuse cases particularly among youngsters. Drugs produce a sence of euphoria but they are very dangerous because the users gradually get addicted and are always at risk of a variety of life-threatening diseases. Addicts face this risk unless they enter long term drug rehab programs and completely quit their drug habit.

Long term rehabilitation is often the only workable solution for those that are trapped in the downward spiral of addiction. The type of treatment needed often depends on the drug to which the person is addicted. For example, when someone is addicted to an opiate like heroin, methadone maintenance is the most common recovery path. As a result, those who are struggling with this type of addiction will want to locate a methadone clinic for heroin addicts in their area to begin their recovery. Methadone is effective when recovering from this type of addiction because it limits the withdrawal symptoms that the patient experiences. These symptoms can often be very dangerous to the person's health, so quitting cold-turkey without the help of a doctor is not advised.

It has been found that drug addicts are initiated on this path by their friends or company. Such a phenomenon occurs at school, college or university or at disco, or at a trip of excursion or at some social gatherings.

The major factors leading to drug addiction are lack of parental cure and supervision, lack of moral and religious education, media and pop culture, hatred for any authority, broken homes etc…..

To check this alarming increase in the number of people taking drugs, the government has outlawed its abuse with hard penalties. A relentless campaign against drug addiction will yeild the desired results. The campaign against drug may start with schools, advertisements, warnings by doctors, and so on. The young ones should be ensured of proper love and care. In the long run however, only a spiritually oriented education system could prove to be a success on getting rid of this bad habit.

"Drugs are a waste of time. They destroy our memory and our self-respect and everything that goes along with with our self esteem.”
