Subject: Poor Performance of Our Country at Olympics
Sir:
I am writing to your esteemed self to express my annoyance and concern over poor performance of Indian players at Olympics. Our country has never made it to the first five positions. Why is it so? China our neighboring country, always manages to stun the world with their performances. Population wise, we are not very far behind. We are just a few millions short of China.
In the 2016 Olympics held at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, India was placed at 67th position. How shameful it is! What could be the reason of such a dismal performance? In spite of so much spending of national resources and funds, the standard of sports remains dismal in our country.
I strongly feel, we as a nation lack the will to achieve our goals. There is total chaos in sports system in our country. There is no accountability concerning anything. What happens to the money and resources granted by the central and state Governments?
There are not enough sports facilities for our children and students. The effect of lack of sports facilities in our country is glaringly visible at Olympics where our sportsmen fail to clinch even a single gold medal.
Through the medium of your esteemed newspaper I appeal to the concerned Ministry and people in general to look into the matter and do the needful. Some system should be brought about in the sports departments; more world class facilities should be created. The schools and colleges should be involved in the sports improvement projects. Kindly publish my views in your esteemed daily.
Yours truly,
Riya
