Sir
Subject: Rash driving and Speeding Vehicles
Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I wish to draw the attention of the readers
and the concerned authorities to the speeding vehicles on the main roads of the city. The
rash and unchecked driving is the main cause of traffic accidents. The recent hit and run
cases on the M.G. Road are an example of this phenomenon. The outskirts of the city have
also seen a few major accidents in recent times.
A close view of the situation reveals numerous loopholes in the system.Traffic personnel
need to be involved in greater numbers and policing needs to be further increased on roads
especially at odd hours.Errant drivers should be severely treated. There should be a speed
limit on the city roads and anyone found overspeeding should be heavily fined. This will
ensure that the offence is not repeated in the future. Those involved in serious accidents
should be booked for rash driving, their licences impounded and no renewal of licence
should be allowed under any circumstances. It is high time that the public realises that the
traffic police means business. Traffic Rules Awareness Week is also a good idea and needs
to be implemented more frequently.
Some of the roads on the outskirts of the city are without any street lights which also
becomes the cause of accidents. Proper lighting on streets is an essential pre-requisite forsafe driving. I am sure that if these suggestions are taken seriously and implemented the
city will become safe again for the common people on the road.
I hope my concern will reach the ears of the concerned authorities through your newspaper.
Yours truly
S.Rajan.
