Home alone with Dacoits
Fourteenth January is a red-letter day in my life. My entire family had gone to the neighbouring village to celebrate Makar Sankranti.
I could not accompany them for my project work that had to be submitted the following day.
I had almost burnt the midnight lamp after completing my project and was getting ready to sleep.
I had dozed off when I suddenly heard knocks at the door. I was initially taken aback. Who could be knocking at that odd hour.
My house is located in the deep interior of a village. People could not commute so late. Before I could decide I heard the knocks getting louder. Stealthily I ran to the terrace and peeped down. There were four armed dacoits all hurly burly in appearance.
I had to think fast. I was the only one in the house-the semi-man of the house. My sister was to get married the next month so there was quite a bit of cash and jewelry in the house. Apparently the robbers had got the scent of it.
Remembering the sequences of my favourite movie 'Home Alone' I decided to act likewise. I collected my marble collection and strew them all over the floor.
I kept pails and buckets of water on the other side of the door. I quietly switched on the television and switched on a heated group discussion.
As soon as they broke open the door they were greeted with the clanking of the metal wares I could clank on. A little taken aback, they landed right on the pails of water and like Jack in Jack and Jill one of them broke his crown.
I was hiding behind the kitchen door so they could not sight me. As they tried to barge in two of them stumbled on the marbles and fell flat on their faces.
At this moment the discussion on T.V grew louder. The robust anchor was screaming his head off. Mistaking his voice for my father's the dacoits fled for their dear lives.
I immediately ran out to the police station. Having no phone I had to go there myself. Soon the police pinned down the dacoits and I was applauded for my bravery.
I had become a real hero 'home alone'!
