SUB:- Impact of Internet on the Teens
Sir/Madam,
I am an avid reader of the columns of your esteemed daily. I would like to draw your attention towards the growth and impact of the virtual world on people, with emphasis on teenagers.
Today, the Internet has occupied a greater bandwidth of our lives. Whether it is academics, work, entertainment or travel, the Internet is at our beck and call. The virtual world has indeed made every aspect of our lives faster, smoother, and easier. However, the Internet has its own share of vices, as far as user security is concerned; and the most vulnerable among internet users today is the youth. Adolescence is a period of physical, mental, as well as emotional transition. Thus, it is likely for a teenager to be in a state of dilemma. For an adolescent, the Internet is a space for learning, and a vast room of secrets too. Adolescents often try to venture into things new and "wild", and, most of the times, the consequences are catastrophic. Social media consists of amicable users as well as dubious entities, and it is sites like Facebook that are the breeding grounds of cyber-crime. Internet stalking, blackmails, and threats are three of the biggest crimes, and the victims in most cases are adolescents. Even though internet security is being upgraded every moment, the user's security is always at stake. It is a request to all parents to supervise their children's internet usage, so that their data and identity do not fall into the wrong hands. It is of utmost importance for schools to make Internet Literacy mandatory.
I request you to publish this letter so that it reaches the concerned authority.
